Island Ford Baptist Church was organized in 1832 by a small group of settlers in rural Gwinnett County, Georgia. Named after the island crossing positioned within the Chattahoochee River, a community sprang up centered around the church and evolved with Island Ford and Gwinnett County over the decades. From a small agrarian community to a developed suburb of Atlanta, Island Ford Baptist Church has remained a constant community pillar and nearing its 200th anniversary. Suwanee Creek Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution with community partners and the Island Ford church family have worked tirelessly to preserve this historic church and cemetery through preservation projects including, marking markerless graves, preserving and honoring the enslaved burial ground, flag distribution at veteran graves, collecting oral histories, digitizing and transcribing historic church documents, and sharing the history of this community. Thank you to all the volunteers and community partners for your preservation efforts. Here is to the next 200 years! Read more
